Treatment of Prostatitis
What can you do if you are suffering from any of these symptoms?
The first step is to seek a thorough diagnosis of the condition, reporting any and all of the symptoms of prostatitis to the doctor. The doctor will determine if bacterial presence in your prostate has any relevance to your problem, and also determine if there are other causes that may play a major role in your ailment.
The gland itself is composed of hundreds of tiny sacs (acini) that secrete prostatic fluid. The smooth muscles surrounding the prostate begin to contract during ejaculation and expel prostatic fluid into the urethra, where it mixes with the sperm and is then ejected from the penis. The prostatic fluid, rich in many elements, provides nourishment to the sperm and helps make it fertile.
The Toronto Prostatitis Care Centre – Procedure:
First, we will conduct a detailed history of your specific symptoms: medical history; sex life; lifestyle; and diet. All of these factors are examined to ascertain their relevance and effect on your condition.
Next, we will conduct a physical examination of the genital and pelvic regions.
We then perform a Direct Rectal Examination (DRE)*, by inserting a lubricated gloved finger into the patient’s rectum, to examine the prostate which lies very close to the rectal wall.
* This methodology reveals the size, shape, texture and sensitivity of the gland. The prostate is then gently massaged to release prostatic fluid, which is collected for a direct microscopy (an examination of the fluid under a microscope). The Prostatic fluid is then examined for the presence of bacteria, inflammation and pus cells, all of which indicate the existence and severity of prostatitis.
Once we have collected all the necessary information and ascertained the diagnosis, we can develop a specific prostatitis treatment protocol, tailored to individual patient needs.
Treatment may include, but is not limited to: use of various medicinal products; prostatic drainages; herbal remedies; life style, sexual behavior and dietary modifications.
In cases where men display more intense symptoms, our proprietary treatment may be administered.
Should we feel that the patient may benefit from more specialized diagnostic procedures, the appropriate referral will be recommended.
It takes approximately 2 hours to complete a comprehensive assessment and to provide counselling on life style and dietary modifications. The follow-up/treatment visits usually comprise of mini-assessment, prostate drainage with EPS microscopy, counselling, and treatment modification if necessary. Every follow-up visit usually takes a half hour to complete.
Whilst there is no “instant cure” for prostatitis, some patients attain excellent results in only a few weeks, whilst other patients may require several months, depending on individual symptoms.
Persistent and thorough treatment our Care Centre, has achieved unprecedented success in the treatment of men with Prostatitis.
